BORn to be Wild, Print production
Brief
BORn to be Wild was an exhibition of rock photography in Bor, showing the work of thirteen authors from the region. One evening carried three events: the promotion of the book Bjesovi by the rock musician Zoran Marinković, the opening of the exhibition itself, and a concert by four bands from the surrounding towns. The job was a visual identity to hold all three together, an exhibition catalogue, and a poster for the street.
Approach
The name of the town became the mark. BOR takes an added letter n and reads as BORn, and that n stands inside a red frame that recalls the centre focus point in a camera viewfinder. The lettering is handwritten and deliberately unruly, in the rebellious spirit the subject asks for, set over a film strip with its perforations running down the edges. The catalogue follows the same manner: a typewriter face for the running text, placed on splatter elements, so the pages read as something made rather than composed. Each author gets a spread, with the name on a brush stroke, a short biography and a selection of concert photographs. The poster is derived from the catalogue cover, with the programme and the times added under it. Drawn in CorelDRAW, images prepared in Photoshop, the catalogue was prepared for print and produced in offset.
Result
One consistent identity across three formats. The mark works on the catalogue cover, in the light box on the street and above the entrance to the gallery, and the interior gives each of the thirteen authors the same amount of room without the whole thing turning into a uniform grid.
